This large Panforte di Siena from Nannini is just perfect for sharing with a gathering of friends and family. The dense cake, studded with jewel-toned candied fruit and crunchy whole almonds, is a traditional Italian treat like no other – still made to a recipe that dates back to the 13th century.
Carefully selected dried fruits and nuts are boiled slowly with sugar and festive spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves are essential) to create a rich, fudgy and aromatic dough. Formed into discs and baked, each panforte is finally dusted with a layer of icing sugar and hand-wrapped in illustrated wax paper, ready for gifting.
